Lecturer in Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship or Innovation
The Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney Business School will be recruiting two positions in Strategy, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and invites interested candidates to meet at the Academy of Management meeting in Seattle.

About Us
Our Discipline of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a new initiative at the University of Sydney Business School. It was formed in 2018, and serves as a key plank in the Business School’s ‘Business Not as Usual’ strategy to distinguish itself among the leading Business Schools in Australia. The Discipline is home to a group of highly productive and engaged strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship scholars with diverse research interests. Employing both qualitative and quantitative research methods SIE faculty publish regularly in top journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies and Human Relations.
Our work aims to inspire and equip leaders to design and implement innovative strategies, shape the evolution of innovation ecosystems, contribute to policy dialogue and improve commercialization outcomes for inventors and entrepreneurs. We champion technological and social innovation, and partner with social and Indigenous enterprises to co-create culturally informed solutions. We also organize the University of Sydney GENESIS competition, which matches promising and innovative start-ups to mentors and culminates in the award of a grand prize.

Lecturer in Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (role #1)
In this position you will:
- develop, teach and coordinate strategy, strategic management and innovation management units of study (i.e., courses) to large and culturally diverse cohorts of undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA students
- contribute to the research strengths of the Discipline, through regular publication in top tier international journals and securing research grants. Your research could be in the fields of strategy, innovation and/or entrepreneurship.
- supervise higher degree research students
- be involved in multidisciplinary collaborations with scholars from other Faculties as well as external stakeholders. Both multidisciplinarity and external engagement are highly valued and materially supported at the University of Sydney.
About you
For the lecturer position, we are looking for ambitious early career academics who have:
- a PhD in Strategy or closely related fields of innovation or entrepreneurship.
- demonstrated experience, or strong potential, to deliver high quality teaching and course development in one or more of the discipline’s core domains.
- an active research program in strategy, innovation or entrepreneurship with significant potential for future publications, including an already established research record of publications in high quality refereed journals.
- the ability to work successfully in a team and a commitment to a collegial approach.
- a commitment to engage with industry, community, and professional bodies in order to expand the School’s program of professional and industry research collaboration and to develop innovative teaching programs.
Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship or Innovation (role #2)
In this position you will:
- develop, teach and coordinate entrepreneurship and/or innovation units of study (i.e., courses) to large and culturally diverse cohorts of undergraduate, postgraduate and/or MBA students,
- contribute to the research strengths of the Discipline, through regular publication in top tier international journals and securing research grants. Your research could be in the fields of entrepreneurship, innovation, or at their crossroads with strategy,
- attract and supervise higher degree research students,
- ensure that the Discipline and Business School leverage the engagement and research opportunities generated by its existing programs in entrepreneurship and innovation.
- lead, establish and maintain productive connections into the University entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem and engage with the wider entrepreneurship ecosystem.
We are particularly keen to meet applicants with the capacity to teach entrepreneurship and or innovation, although strong strategy scholars are also welcome to apply.
About you
We are looking for ambitious mid-career academics for posts at Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor level in entrepreneurship/innovation who have:
- a PhD in Entrepreneurship, Innovation or closely related field,
- evidence of successfully pursuing an ambitious research program, measured by publications in high quality refereed journals and secured funding,
- demonstrated the ability to deliver high quality teaching and course development of strategy, innovation and/or entrepreneurship units in undergraduate, postgraduate or MBA programs,
- shown a commitment to engagement with industry and professional bodies to expand the Business School’s program of professional and industry research and educational collaborations,
- the ability to work successfully in a team and a commitment to a collegial approach.
