BACKGROUND
Trinity University is one of the nation’s top liberal arts universities, offering master's degrees in select professional fields. The Department of Health Care Administration’s Masters of Science in Health Care Administration (HCAD) program is widely considered one of the nation’s premier graduate programs for health care administration, integrating excellent academic preparation with outstanding applied and experiential learning. Our program has a rich history and a vast, engaged alumni network, having been continuously accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) since 1968. We have two delivery options for our degree: a full-time on-campus program and a part-time executive program designed for individuals working full-time in health care. Our program is proud to be located on the second floor of Trinity University’s Chapman Center, an inspired and newly-renovated building that offers inviting faculty offices, common work spaces, and cutting-edge classrooms, promoting connection and collaboration across business and social science disciplines.
Trinity University is a secular, independent, private institution. Both the Department of Health Care Administration and the University as a whole value and safeguard academic freedom for faculty members in their teaching and scholarship. Trinity is guided by a set of core values and is committed to implementing practices in pursuit of an inclusive campus for all students, faculty, and staff to feel welcomed and engaged in a community of learning. As such, our program is committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its courses.
Our beautiful modernist campus is located in the heart of San Antonio, an historic and growing city situated at the edge of the Texas Hill Country. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country with over 1.5 million people, offering diverse cultural opportunities and an appealing year-round climate. It is the center of a diversifying and vibrant economy, and healthcare and bioscience are one of the most important industries in San Antonio, employing one out of every six San Antonians. The South Texas Medical Center is the epicenter of an industry that produced more than $42 billion in regional economic impact in 2019. Additionally, all medical education and training for the U.S. military occurs in San Antonio. The city is also home to the only Department of Defense Burn Center, two Level 1 trauma centers, and military medicine research for the Navy, Army, and Air Force. Additional information can be found on the Resource Guide to Trinity & San Antonio.
Recognizing the myriad complex challenges and inequities observed across the US healthcare system both today and tomorrow, Trinity University’s HCAD program is dedicated to developing “2040 Leaders” who are prepared to drive health care’s transformation. This resolve informs our strategic priorities for our students, which are three-fold: excellence in leadership practice, fluency in innovation, and a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students encounter these priorities in experiences and curricula threaded throughout their navigation of the HCAD program, including (but not limited to): a three-course sequence focused on leadership, coaching, and public speaking; an innovation journey exposing students to design thinking, intrapreneurship, and entrepreneurial mindsets; projects and assignments spanning multiple courses that synthesize content and challenge students to make a tangible community impact; numerous case studies and “live” projects developed internally and in coordination with program alumni; course experiences that foster empathy, humility, and perspective-taking in students’ collaborations and storytelling; and, an array of internal and external competitions focused on experiential learning and the practical application of concepts and competencies.
