The Department of Management & Organizations (MNO) in the Cox School of Business at SMU is seeking to hire for a non-tenure track Professor of Practice position #49920 in the area of business communication with a January 2024 start date if possible but position will remain open until filled. This position will teach courses in both Management and Organizations and Business Leadership/Communication. Thought leadership, a charismatic persona, and a broad-ranging repertoire that provides for high quality teaching is essential. The candidate selected will be strongly involved in students’ preparation and coaching to effectively construct and deliver presentations commonly found in post-undergraduate and/or post-MBA/MS careers. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated expertise in effective storytelling that can be combined with knowledge and skills taken from functional business disciplines (e.g., finance, marketing, analytics, accounting, strategy) taught through other Cox courses. Ability to effectively provide communication consultation and coaching in support of other classroom and extracurricular activities in which presentations are required, such as consulting projects and case competitions, is highly desired. Interfacing with the Career Management Center on topics such as consulting case interviews and presentations required as part of job interviews is also essential. Minimum qualifications: Candidates must have a masters or MBA; 5+ years work experience; Past expertise teaching courses in management and/or business communication in a university setting.
Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated potential to teach graduate courses in management, business leadership, and business communications. Interest in making significant contributions to the strategic delivery of communications and professional development curriculum as well as its extracurricular program components (i.e., case competitions, applied experiential learning, orientation, outside speakers, job interviews, internships, and placement opportunities) is desired. Strong connections to SMU, the alumni, and Dallas business leaders is preferred as a way to bring in content to the classroom.
