Position overview
The School of Business at Menlo College seeks well-qualified applicants for a full-time faculty position in the area of management, at a rank appropriate to the applicant’s credentials. The selected candidate will teach in and be expected to contribute to the development of courses primarily in management and human resources related disciplines.
The ideal candidate must have successfully earned a research doctorate in one of the respective areas by the start date of August 1, 2024. Current doctoral students should be on track to complete all degree requirements by July 31, 2024.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is eager to actively participate in collaborative efforts focused on crafting and delivering innovative, experiential learning opportunities. This role includes teaching at the undergraduate level and taking a leading role in developing cutting-edge learning and development modules for faculty. In addition, active engagement in scholarly communities is expected. As the business world undergoes significant transformations, especially in the Silicon Valley region, Menlo College is positioned at the forefront of these changes. The position of Management Assistant Professor and Director of Learning and Development represents a dynamic leadership role within our institution. This role seamlessly integrates academic expertise in management with the crucial responsibility of conceiving and executing comprehensive learning and development initiatives for our faculty. It is a pivotal role that will make a substantial contribution to our overarching mission of promoting excellence in management education and professional growth.
Expectations of the Ideal Candidate
Teaching and Research (Assistant Professor):
• Showcase evidence of prior teaching experience and a strong potential for achieving teaching excellence. Display a willingness to thrive in a collaborative, team-teaching environment. Possess scholarly research interests within the field of management.
• Demonstrate a keen interest in and the ability to establish connections with organizations located in Silicon Valley and the broader Bay Area.
• Display enthusiasm for collaborating on the development and delivery of innovative, real-world learning experiences for undergraduate students.
• Possess substantial and directly applicable research expertise related to their discipline, preferably complemented by relevant work experience.
• Show a strong motivation to actively engage in courses and programs closely aligned with current management topics, including collaborative projects involving students, faculty, and local companies.
Learning and Development (Director):
• Formulate and manage a holistic learning and development strategy that aligns with the objectives of the Office of Academic Affairs.
• Work in partnership with academic deans and faculty members to identify training requirements and create tailored modules.
• Integrate cutting-edge teaching methods and tools, integrating technology and experiential learning approaches.
• Assess the impact and efficiency of educational initiatives through data analysis and feedback mechanisms.
• Assume leadership of a team of learning and development experts, offering guidance, assistance, and mentorship as needed.
Key Responsibilities (Assistant Professor)
• Faculty members are expected to deliver six courses annually, dividing them evenly between the fall and spring semesters.
• Conduct and publish research rooted in management, organizational behavior, or leadership practices, with a minimum of one peer-reviewed journal article every other year.
• Actively participate in shared governance and fulfill other campus service responsibilities.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate students.
• Contribute to curriculum evaluation as required.
• Engage in a cooperative and nurturing atmosphere alongside colleagues with extensive business acumen and research proficiency.
• Join courses and programs that facilitate project-based collaborations involving students, faculty, and local companies.
Key Responsibilities (Director)
• Take the lead in crafting hybrid course curricula, involving close collaboration with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and faculty to generate compelling and efficient learning materials.
• Ensure that the curriculum aligns seamlessly with the educational objectives of the institution, catering to the needs of both in-person and online students.
• Stay abreast of the latest educational technologies and tools, assessing and incorporating digital resources to enrich the learning experience.
• Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement among faculty and instructional staff, creating training programs and workshops to elevate their online teaching proficiency.
• Promote the adaptation of best practices in different modalities, including hybrid, in-person, and online while delivering ongoing support and guidance to existing faculty and new faculty.
• Skills in project management, including task tracking, timelines, and collaboration tools, are valuable for managing instructional design projects.
Technical Requirement
• Must be proficient in using Canvas, Qualtrics, Google Suite. Basic graphic design skill.
• Proficiency in creating storyboards or outlines that detail the structure and flow of course content.
